State Project

As part of its commitment to the advancement of literacy for all students, The Texas State Reading Association (TSRA) is firmly committed to supporting international literacy development efforts.  Now in its second year, the TSRA International  Reading  Project has generated approximately 1,000 books in English and Spanish, which have been donated to Lauro Aguirre Elementary School in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas (Mexico), since the school did not have a library.  These books are helping to motivate students to read in both languages. To facilitate the continued development of this library, TSRA respectfully requests that interested individuals and / or organizations make either a monetary donation or donate books to continue to develop this library. These additional resources will help the students develop a strong sense of pride in their own heritage, as well as an appreciation for a second language and its corresponding culture. Donations can be sent to:

Juanita Lira, TSRA International Reading Committee Chair
